Artistic interventions of the Mexican student movement.
‘Leverage’ is an inquiry into the work of Artistas Aliados, the artistic branch of the #YoSoy132 student movement that burst out in Mexico on May 11th, 2012. Excluded from the usual circuits of aesthetic and economic value production, the work of Artistas Aliados provides an opportunity to explore contemporary geopolitics of value from a position of relative exteriority. The author departs from the thesis that neoliberalism has appropriated the formal dimension of our imaginations as a result of its global hegemony over economics and mass media. Neoliberalism's colonization of form mobilizes unconscious affective content to the advantage of capital, which Artistas Aliados strive to leverage to their own advantage.
